The Nobel Prize-winning season has begun, with the Nobel Prize for Medicine being awarded today by two US scientists and one British scientist.

The prestigious award winners are William Kaelin, Sir Peter Ratcliffe and Gregg Semenza.

According to the official announcement of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, the three scientists have been selected as winners of the prestigious award due to discoveries regarding the sensitivity and adaptation of cells to the presence of oxygen.

According to The Guardian, the three scientists will be rewarded with nine million Swedish kronor, equivalent to 828,000 euros.

Nobel will be followed by awards for physics on Tuesday, awards on chemistry on Wednesday, that literature on Thursday and economics on Monday, October 14th.

Meanwhile, much speculation this year is for Greta Thunberg, who could snatch the prestigious peace prize.
